Calibration, verification and adjustment
Calibration compares the value shown by a measuring instrument with a traceable reference value. The results document the observed error, environmental conditions and reference equipment used.
Verification checks whether an instrument meets defined requirements. The result is normally expressed as pass or fail against a regulatory, manufacturer, process or user specification.
Adjustment changes an instrument to reduce its deviation from the reference value. Because adjustment alters the instrument, calibration is normally performed afterward to record its resulting performance.
